Jim Huneke
remembers the USPTA tennis exam and it was difficult. There are some things
that he was not quite ready for. While he has been a professional coach for
many years he realized that he would need to go above and beyond to make sure he
earned the certification he was looking for. The following are some of the most
important things.
•
Practice
your shots and utilize the list of shots you will be required to perform prior
to going to the test. You may be a great player and coach but it does not hurt
to practice the chain of shots that you will be asked to take.
•
Jim Huneke suggests you get a friend or two
who can help you practice teaching, remember, they do not want you teaching in
your own style if it is any different from their official way of teaching. Just
teach the textbook way and you will be fine. Having a friend to be your
“student” for a few “lessons” teaching the textbook way can really help you get
it down.
•
Only
teach a student on the shot you are supposed to teach on. Do not mention
anything about any other shot at all. If you do they will be sure to dock you.
Stay focused on the subject and do not get off track.
While these
are not the only things you need to know, these three will get you started and
hopefully you will be fully prepared just as Jim Huneke was. Good luck!
